Not many of us can say we have ticked off overnighting in a castle from our bucket list and very few of us can have ticked off staying in one with this level of luxury.

Roch Castle is not what it seems from the outside. This iconic Norman tower commands the surrounding views of St Brides Bay for miles around, almost foreboding in its imposing stature, but its appearance tells nothing of the stylish and luxurious interior makeover. It is romantic and cosy, the thick 12th century walls insulate lucky guests in calm serenity, the modern heating and windows make this an equally comfortable place to ride out a West Wales storm as it is to hide from the heat of a sunny day on the beach.

The lofty tower is approached by an immaculate driveway, complete with seemingly magic electric gates that hint at things to come. Once you have been personally welcomed, there’s no stuffy hotel style reception desk here, the genuinely welcoming team will lead you to some of the best bedrooms in our Collection. On the way you will appreciate how much thought was given to the stunning restoration here. Think cool and contemporary, smooth and stylish, intimate and welcoming. Classy details abound, from the heraldic plaque to subtle lighting, arched doorways to designer staircases, chunky furnishings to exclusive ceramics and tapestries.

The bedrooms are outstanding. Roch Castle doesn’t go in for creaky old four-posters. Its bedrooms are style personified, effortlessly functional and right on-trend. The duvets, pillows, linen and beds are of the highest quality with Sealy beds, while the Philippe Starck bathrooms come with luxury toiletries and a ten on the fluffy towel scale.

The six indulgent rooms accommodate twelve, with Ap Gruffydd, the largest of them all and having arguably the most stunning views, being fit for a King and Queen. What could be more ‘bucket list’ than gathering friends and family to celebrate a special anniversary, or a significant birthday within the rejuvenated walls of hundreds of years of history.

Whilst you can stay here for just one indulgent night, Roch Castle is best suited to the laughter and memory making that only comes from booking it as a group. We were delighted when it became possible to reserve the castle on an exclusive use basis, with the option of private dining to make entertaining a breeze. It’s the ideal location for exploring all of Pembrokeshire’s rugged and beautiful coast and countryside.

Great Little Rarebits

Great Little Places enjoys a reputation in Britain and worldwide as the collection of small and friendly places to stay in Wales. Small is beautiful – but such places, unlike the best hotels (which are listed in almost every guidebook), are much more difficult to find. Locating small establishments that really stand out from the huge choice is much more of a challenge – but that's what we're all about.
