Here’s one of Aberaeron’s oldest and most impressive houses – and that’s saying something for the honeypot harbour town well-known for its iconic pastel painted, Georgian-style architecture.

Llys Aeron is an old friend of our Collection, full of heritage character, reassuringly substantial stone-built in the 1800’s, with well-proportioned rooms, lofty ceilings, plenty of space and a pleasing marriage of classical and contemporary design cues. New custodians, Kerry and Jonathon, have re-styled and refreshed this luxurious guest house, putting their stamp on it, and bringing it bang up to date.

The three airy bedrooms are inviting spaces in which to spend time, the careful use of contemporary wall coverings with the on-trend modern en-suites which come complete with high-end toiletries. We loved sinking into the spectacular four-poster with lovely views over the garden. Breakfast is a highlight here, from a proper set-you-up-for-the-day full Welsh with local sausages and bacon, to amazing smoked-salmon and fresh fruit. The uncompromising focus on quality and the obvious time spent in seeking out genuinely local ingredients comes shining through. If you fancy a lie-in, more independence or maybe a little more space, you can even book the self-contained self-catering apartment on the ground floor of the house.

Ideally located for exploring Ceredigion’s coast and country, where dolphins swim in the clear waters of Cardigan Bay, the civilised, un-stuffy vibe in the downstairs conservatory and walled garden is a perfect spot to reflect on the day before heading out to one of Aberaeron’s many well-regarded bustling eateries for supper or a drink on the harbour wall.

Jon and Kerry’s warm yet skilful hosting, the new contemporary feel and arguably one of the best locations in Wales, makes Llys Aeron a sought-after new entry to our collection. It’s no surprise to us that the well-deserved accolades are flowing. Book early … and soon.

Great Little Rarebits

Great Little Places enjoys a reputation in Britain and worldwide as the collection of small and friendly places to stay in Wales. Small is beautiful – but such places, unlike the best hotels (which are listed in almost every guidebook), are much more difficult to find. Locating small establishments that really stand out from the huge choice is much more of a challenge – but that's what we're all about.
