Quay Street Studios
Cardigan
The creative atmosphere is everywhere you go in old town Cardigan, and that rich cultural atmosphere is every bit as palpable in the centuries old stones that make up the amazing Quay Street Studios.
And now for something completely different. Unique is an often-overused word, but we are fairly sure there aren’t many like this out there. The creative atmosphere is everywhere you go in old town Aberteifi, Cardigan, and that rich cultural atmosphere is every bit as palpable in the centuries old stones that make up the amazing Quay Street Studios.
We find that the very best places to stay are an extension of the owner’s personality, real hospitality genuinely does come from the heart. Meet Penny, your beyond lovely host. She is a treasure trove of local knowledge, full of tips and trips, and, uniquely, she is the enthusiastic curator of her very own ‘Comedy Inn and Garden Theatre’. Complete with a cosy bar, the downstairs intimate performance space is the hottest ticket in town. Quay Street Comedy club has launched some famous showbiz careers, but look out for live music, poetry and even lectures at the Cellar Bar. Perfect for an intimate wedding or celebration.
There are three very different but equally gorgeous rooms here. The Garden Room is a fully kitted out apartment with direct access to the oasis of calm that is the private terrace overlooking the shared walled garden. Its sympathetically layered contemporary feel, muted colours and exposed masonry sits well within the rambling history of the building. With the added bonus of a full kitchen, it’s a calming space to spend time in.
The Attic Room is a zen, romantic and spacious suite, making the most of the exposed ancient roof timbers. It has a breakfast bar and simple cooking facilities, all you might need for a business trip, but equally perfect for curling up with a good book after a day exploring.
The Art Room, overlooking Quay Street, is a striking mix of monochrome styles, featuring some of Penny’s own photography on the walls. A thoughtfully designed compact kitchenette making the best use of the space is ideal for whipping up breakfast. The attention to detail and personal touches are everywhere.
Cardigan, or Aberteifi, is a town with a big heart and soul. Bustling with fiercely independent stores, artisan coffee shops, wood-fired pizza eateries, and on-trend art galleries. At its heart is the reassuringly sturdy castle, with the rest of the bustling town gathered around the river Teifi which was once its nautical lifeblood. The rugged coastline is within a short drive, but so much better to tap into Penny’s encyclopedic knowledge and uncover some real hidden gems.
