St Brides has just turned a new page — not by erasing the past, but by polishing it, opening its arms wider, and letting the Pembrokeshire light flood in. Perched high above Saundersfoot Bay, this beloved seaside escape has received a thoughtful refurbishment that honours its clifftop soul while tuning its edges sharp, sleek, and ever so inviting.

First, the rooms. Each bedroom and suite have been individually styled, sea-views more than just a bonus — they’re integral. Shades are gentler, lighting more artful, materials more tactile: limestone floors, timber touches, subtle maritime references that whisper more than shout. The bathrooms now feel like sanctuaries, with powerful showers, luxurious finishes, and design details that make you linger.

The spa has also been reimagined with renewed purpose. The thermal suite has gained fresh features, including a Himalayan salt and infrared therapy room, expanding its wellness toolkit. The hydrotherapy and infinity-edge pools (you know the ones, the view over the water is everything) feel more luminous, more attuned to being part spa, part calm observatory watching waves roll in.

Dining and public spaces haven’t been neglected. The Cliff Restaurant, with its sweeping coastal panorama, is still the crown-jewel view, now complemented by interiors that are refined but relaxed. The bar, the communal areas — they all have new life: cosy corners, clean lines, artful atmosphere, a mix of understated luxury with comfort (“I could stay here for weeks” sort of comfort).

St Brides’ upgrade isn’t about being flashy. It’s about being honest, about enhancing what was already beautiful — the sea, the light, the air — so that when you wake up, you believe you’re somewhere rare. Somewhere you didn’t just escape to but where you belong.

Welsh Rarebits

Welsh Rarebits are a million miles removed from the bland, corporate, soulless places run by the big boys of the so-called hospitality industry. So what makes a Welsh Rarebit? They're all different. Very different - everything from traditional country houses to cutting edge boutique boltholes, luxury spas to historic inns. We look at things like comfort, attention to detail, food, decor and all those small touches that add up to so much, separating the best from the rest.
